DREAMS Foundation Hosts Support Group for Moms of Special Needs, Open to the Public to Attend

Each month, the D.R.E.A.M.S. Foundation of Acadiana along with Autism Society and Downs Syndrome Association hosts a support group for moms of special needs children/adults. Meetings are held on either a Friday night  or Saturday and vary as to  the location and activity .

The support group is open to moms/female caregivers of special needs children/adults that want to connect with other moms to discuss topics that impact daily living related to caring for a loved one with simple to complex medical conditions

“The moms support group is a great avenue for complete strangers to connect over a common bond: raising a child, sibling or loved one who has special needs,” stated DREAMS Volunteer Paula Duhon Bernard.

“Support groups provide vital opportunities for members of the special needs community to connect with others who understand what they’re going through, decrease feelings of isolation and loneliness, and find support and information,” stated Ava Hebert, DREAMS Supporter and Advocate.

“We are a casual, fun-loving group of moms who are going through various stages of our children’s health. From new moms to moms with lots of experience, we encourage new members to join our group anytime,” commented Mary Hooks Baudoin, Special Needs Advocate and DREAMS Supporter

“The response to the moms support group has been overwhelming and we are so fortunate to provide this free service to the community,” stated D.R.E.A.M.S. Executive Director Donielle Watkins.
