Opening a nonprofit much less running one was not even a thought in the Watkins minds.  Raising a family is hard enough especially having a child with special needs.  We all know God has a plan and he used their son to show them the way!

This is how the story unfolded!

One day, Logan asked to play baseball. So, Donielle and Brian made it happen with help with the Lafayette community. They contacted the coordinator at Lafayette Little League and asked them to start a league then Logan started to play challenger ball!  After 1st game Logan asked, Logan asked me, ‘When does basketball start’?” Donielle says.  We realized that day he wanted to be like all other boys and girls playing every sport like his siblings!  The DREAMS Foundation of Acadiana came to be just a few years later!

The D.R.E.A.M.S. Foundation of Acadiana, a special needs non-profit organization, was incorporated in 2007 to help individuals with special needs, their families and to educate the public of their needs and wants. Since its establishment, the foundation has been growing into something really special! We now have over 15 activities that you can find on our sports and activities page.  On the surface it's just activities giving the kids something to do and a little exercise but turned into so much more!  It allows the kids to belong to something bigger than themselves, it also allows them to be part of an organization were everyone fits in and feels welcomed.  It also has allowed the parents to simply be parents and meet other parents that can identify with them and understand the struggles of being a parent of a child with special needs.
